The record

A dense, percussion-heavy date that shows Blakey pushing the Messengers concept toward early-'70s fusion currents, with George Cables and John Hicks trading acoustic and electric colors over a stacked conga-and-bass frontline. A rare Prestige credit for the drummer, catching him mid-transition between hard bop lineage and looser, groove-driven ensemble writing.

Pressings

The earliest on file is the 1972 US Prestige PR10047, carrying an RVG stamp; that same number also covers a stereo Hollywood pressing and a promo from the same year, both stamped. The 1973 UK PR10047 and the Japanese LPP-88105 are close behind and also stamped. Later copies -- a 1987 German reissue and an undated Bellaphon under the same number -- add nothing, so the 1972 US copy is the one to want.

Showing the first pressing, audiophile reissues and copies carrying a collector marker, out of 16 pressings on file.
