The record
A late-'50s Riverside date that surrounds Lincoln with a small horn section rather than a stripped-down combo, letting Golson, Fuller, and Farmer color the arrangements around her increasingly assured phrasing. Cut the same year as her work with Max Roach began deepening, it catches her moving from torch-song stylist toward the interpretive weight she'd soon be known for.
