The record
Arranged brass and reeds replace the usual quartet setting here, with Teddy Edwards and Tommy Flanagan lending weight to Criss's stretch beyond straight bebop lines. Recorded for Prestige in May 1968, the tuba-and-trombone voicings give the record an unusual, chamber-dark cast.
