The record
A late-'60s Atlantic date led jointly by two young sidemen-turned-leaders, with Bennie Maupin's tenor and flute alongside Owens' brass giving the postbop writing room to stretch. Barron's comping already shows the touch that would anchor decades of sessions to come, here still in his sideman years.
