The record
Two tenors trading blows and blessings -- Lockjaw's gruff, behind-the-beat swagger against Griffin's fleet, headlong attack, cushioned by Junior Mance's soulful piano. A prime slice of the early-'60s battle-of-tenors format, cut when this working quintet had already road-tested its chemistry.
