The record
Three trombone leaders divide the record -- J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding, Bennie Green -- and Prestige stacked the supporting chairs deep: Sonny Rollins and Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis on tenors, Gerry Mulligan on baritone, Kenny Dorham on trumpet, and Art Blakey, Max Roach and Roy Haynes all appearing on drums. Bop written at the low end of the horn range, and it moves quicker than the instrument's reputation suggests.
