The record

Taylor assembles a deep bench of first-call session players -- Terry, Woods, Wess, Cleveland -- to reimagine Richard Adler's short-lived Broadway score as swinging big-band jazz. The tuba-and-french-horn voicings give these charts an unusually plush, brass-choir warmth rare for early-'60s Mercury dates.
