The record
Slide Hampton's brass-heavy octet stacks trumpets and euphonium into a dense, arranger's palette, with a young Freddie Hubbard and George Coleman adding bite to Hampton's own richly voiced writing. A lesser-known Atlantic date, but a sharp showcase for Hampton's skill at scoring for unconventional horn sections.
