Xanadu hands Sam Jones the leader's chair, reuniting him with drummer Louis Hayes and pianist Barry Harris behind a punchy front line of Blue Mitchell, Slide Hampton and a young Bob Berg. Hard bop played straight, no frills, by musicians who came up inside the style.
