The record
A drummer's date in the best sense -- Osie Johnson leads a bench of Basie-band regulars (Wess, Coker, Powell, Fowlkes) through a mid-'50s Jazztone session heavy on section-man swing. Loose, riff-driven charts built for blowing, with the rhythm section doing double duty across two bassists and a drummer who knows exactly how to push a big sound from a small group.
