The record

Three tenors trading blows -- Nelson's schooled architecture, Jimmy Forrest's bluesy R&B honk, and King Curtis's grittier attack -- backed by Duvivier and Haynes keeping the swing lean and alert. A 1960 Prestige date that plays like a friendly cutting contest, capturing the label's house-band ease under real heat.

  • Roy Haynes — drums
  • Gene Casey — piano
  • Jimmy Forrest — tenor saxophone

Pressings

The earliest pressing on file is the 1962 US Prestige mono PRLP 7223, with a stereo PR 7223 the same year; a UK Esquire 32-189 mono followed in 1963. Stereo also appears as PRST 7223 in 1964, and PR 7223 was repressed in mono in 1964 and 1965, one of those carrying an RVG stamp. Fantasy's OJC-325 from 1988 is the reliable reissue when the originals are out of reach.
