The record

Cut in '64 as the bossa nova wave crested, this Impulse! date finds the MJQ's vibraphonist stretching into Brazilian rhythm with Tommy Flanagan and Jimmy Heath alongside for warmth. A lighter, sun-dappled session than his quartet work, it shows Jackson's touch adapting gracefully to the samba pulse.
