The record
Written after Billie Holiday's death, the title track -- co-written with her -- pairs McLean's keening alto with Waldron's spare, blues-drenched comping. This 1959 Bethlehem date proves his writing carried as much weight as his years as her accompanist.

Pressings
The flagged earliest is the 1960 US Bethlehem stereo, BS-6045, with a deep groove -- but the 1960 mono BCP 6045 is styrene and is what most collectors mean when they say original, so decide which you are after before bidding. A Japanese Angel pressing, HV-3018, also dates to 1960. Red vinyl Stateside gatefolds, SR-9010, turn up from 1966. Later Bethlehem reissues run to 1992; none is an audiophile cut.
