The record
Cut in Paris with a crack local septet-plus-rhythm section, this 1956 date finds Thompson's tenor gliding over charts rich with continental color, Martial Solal's piano adding a sly, angular wit throughout. A rare glimpse of the American tenor giant abroad, later rescued from obscurity by Xanadu's reissue instincts.
