The record

Smith takes on Waller's Harlem songbook here, stride and swing filtered through the Hammond with Warren's guitar keeping the rhythm light and Bailey barely there underneath. Playful, blues-soaked homage from a leader who never lost his own voice doing it.

Session personnel

  • Donald Bailey — drums
  • Quentin Warren — guitar
  • Jimmy Smith — organ [hammond]
