The record
Mid-'70s McGriff finds the Hammond organ swimming in a bigger, funkier pool -- horns, congas, and a stacked guitar section pushing the groove toward jazz-funk crossover. Groove Merchant let him stretch past the classic soul-jazz trio format without losing the churchy bottom end that made his B-3 work stand apart.
