The record

Lee Morgan's brass punch meets McLean's tart, urgent alto over Mabern's percussive comping and the steady Higgins-Lewis pulse. Shelved for years before release, it shows the band easing hard bop toward freer terrain without losing its grit.

We hold no original-era LP for this title. The earliest pressing on file is a 1979 UK Blue Note, LBR 1027, and it carries an RVG stamp. The same year brought a South African BNTJ(M) 1027, then a 1980 Brazilian 31C 052 82958 and a 1981 Japanese stereo, GXK 8172, all of them RVG-stamped as well. The UK and Japanese copies are the two worth hunting; nothing here is a first-pressing proposition.
