The record
A trumpeter who cut his teeth with Monk and Ellington-adjacent bebop circles gets a rock-solid rhythm section for this SteepleChase date, Walton's chords and the Jones-Higgins pairing giving the frontline plenty of swing to lean into. Sulieman's tone stays lean and vocal-like throughout, a reminder of how much of the bebop trumpet lineage never got its due on record.
