The record

A loose, largely improvised date built on Afro-Cuban rhythm rather than fixed heads, with Chambers, Bobo and Martinez pushing Hancock into open, percussive territory well outside hard bop convention. A telling detour before Empyrean Isles, showing how restless his Blue Note years already were.

Session personnel

  • Paul Chambers — bass
  • Osvaldo Martinez — congas, bongos
  • Willie Bobo — drums, timbales
  • Herbie Hancock — piano

Pressings

We hold no original-era LP for this title. The only entry on file is a 2019 stereo listing with no catalogue number and no country attached -- a placeholder, not a record you can go and identify. Nothing here will help you tell an early Blue Note from a later reissue, so verify any copy you are offered against its label, jacket and matrix before paying original money.
