The record
A tight quartet date with no chordal cushion beyond the piano, letting Carter and the young Williams push the frame wide open while Hubbard's cornet cuts through on "One Finger Snap." "Cantaloupe Island" would later become a hip-hop touchstone, but here it's just one groove among a set that edges post-bop toward freer terrain.
