The record
Yusef Lateef switches between tenor and flute here, coloring outside the usual quartet lines while McDuff's organ works up a low simmer. Guitar phrasing stays economical, almost horn-like, bridging bebop and grease in one date.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1962 mono, BLP 4086, with an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear; a second 1962 mono adds a deep groove on side one. The 1962 stereo, BST 84086, carries the RVG stamp. Reissues on that stereo number run from 1966 through the mid-eighties and are easy to find. Analogue Productions cut it at 45 RPM in 2010 as AP-84086, which is the serious modern option.
