The record

Cello led the front line rather than trumpet or sax, with Katz -- the classically trained sideman from Chico Hamilton's group -- steering a West Coast date thick with drummers and brass. A curious late-'50s Decca session where chamber-jazz instincts meet swinging bebop rhythm section muscle from Vinnegar and Higgins.
