The record

A quintet session cut for Savoy just as Byrd was establishing himself in New York, with Frank Foster's tenor and Hank Jones' economical comping giving the hard bop plenty of room to breathe. Kenny Clarke and a young Paul Chambers anchor the date with the kind of understated swing that made mid-'50s Savoy sessions so durable.
