The record

Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson conducts band and voices here, and the brass is stacked deep -- four trumpets and four trombones around Byrd's own trumpet and flugelhorn, with Don Butterfield's tuba at the bottom. Herbie Hancock is at the piano and Freddie Roach at the organ, Grant Green is on guitar, and Stanley Turrentine's tenor cuts through the choir. Blue Note, 1965.
