Seven standards taken slow, with Kenny Burrell's guitar shadowing the tenor and Ronnell Bright's piano staying out of the way. Ron Carter and Andrew Cyrille keep the pulse soft and unhurried. Moodsville MV 15, released in 1961 -- 'Under A Blanket Of Blue' and 'Speak Low' show what Coleman Hawkins could do at a whisper.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1961 Moodsville MV 15 in mono; a 1965 Moodsville reissue of the same number carries an RVG stamp, which is the detail that separates the two. Analogue Productions cut the record to 45 RPM in 2005, limited and numbered on 180 gram, and that is the audiophile choice. Otherwise the 2014 Original Jazz Classics OJC-709, also RVG-stamped, is the easy copy.
