The record
Larry Coryell makes his recorded debut on guitar here, his rawer attack colliding with Ernie Hayes's organ and Archie Shepp's title tune for a session that pulls Hamilton's sound toward soul-jazz grit. Cut for Impulse! in '66, it marks a sharp turn from the group's earlier hush.

The earliest we list is the 1967 US mono, Impulse! A-9130, in a gatefold; the stereo of the same year is AS-9130, also gatefold. Both circulated, so decide which you want before you buy. Reissues of AS-9130 run through 1971 and 1972, and a 1976 South African ABCL 0168 turns up. The current option is the 2024 Impulse! yellow 180 gram pressing, 602458940817.
