The record
A rare leader date for the guitarist best known for lighting up Louis Jordan's late-'40s sides, cut with a young Brother Jack McDuff already staking out his soul-jazz organ turf. Tight, riff-driven and blues-soaked, it's a snapshot of the guitar-organ combo sound just before it became a jukebox staple.
