The record
Early-fifties Pepper caught mid-ascent, his alto already carrying that lean, vibrato-less West Coast cool alongside pianists Claude Williamson and Russ Freeman. A snapshot of the young Savoy sessions before the harder years, full of easy swing and clean-lined invention.
