The record
Cut for Verve in the summer of 1965, this session pairs Lateef's tenor, flute and oboe with a trio built for both swing and open-ended modal drift. Georges Arvanitas' piano gives the French-flavored rhythm section its own quiet identity.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1966 US Impulse! mono, A-92, a Keel pressing with the RVG stamp in a laminated gatefold; the stereo, AS-92, is the same year in a gatefold. Canada had Sparton issues of both. Impulse! kept AS-92 in print through 1971, 1972 and 1974 reissues, so a gatefold alone does not date a copy. Modern choices are the 2015 180g AS-92 and a 2023 Verve remaster, B0037580-01, on yellow vinyl.
