The record

A budget-label reissue of tenor sides from Gray's West Coast bop years, capturing the fluid, Lester Young-schooled tone that made him a favorite in both Basie's band and the LA jam session scene. Compiled after his early death in 1955, it's a modest package for an important, underdocumented voice in cool-toned bop tenor.
