Mid-'50s British hard bop, cut when Hayes was barely into his twenties but already commanding the front line with a fluency that outpaced most of his UK peers. South's piano and Hawdon's trumpet keep the session lively and unpolished, a snapshot of London's jazz scene finding its own voice.
