The record

A West Coast tenor date from '57, Kamuca's breathy, Websterish sound set against Carl Perkins' behind-the-beat piano and the Vinnegar-Levey rhythm team that anchored so much of the era's Pacific jazz. Understated and swinging, it's a fine showcase for Perkins, gone too soon, and Kamuca's easy, lyrical command of the horn.

Session personnel

  • Leroy Vinnegar — bass
  • Stan Levey — drums
  • Carl Perkins — piano
  • Richie Kamuca — tenor saxophone
