The record

Standards get the full trio treatment, Brown's bass and Thigpen's drums keeping pace while the leader's ideas pile up without ever losing the thread of the tune.

Session personnel

  • Ray Brown — bass
  • Ed Thigpen — drums

Contemporary reception

No period review located yet. The vintage-press pipeline searches DownBeat, Cash Box, and Billboard for this session.

Pressings

The earliest we list is the 1964 US Verve mono, V-8591, an MGM pressing; the stereo is V6-8591 from the same year and the same plant. Britain got VLP 9071, including a white-label copy, and Japan SMV 1011. Watch the 1965 Capitol Record Club repress, which also reads V6-8591. Canadian and German copies of both mixes are on file too. The 1986 Japanese reissue, 20MJ-0080, is the late option.

Showing the first pressing, audiophile reissues and copies carrying a collector marker, out of 35 pressings on file.
