The record
A big-band-sized date for a singer who deserved wider notice, backed by a crack lineup pulling from the Basie and Miles Davis camps alike -- Freddie Green's rhythm guitar next to Wynton Kelly and Jimmy Cobb tells you the pedigree. Riverside gave her real horn charts and real swing, and her phrasing repays the investment.
