The record
A rare showcase for Brown's cello work, backed by a West Coast studio band thick with reeds and brass under Rowles' piano. Verve's arranger-friendly budget gave this 1960 date room to stretch beyond the bassist's usual sideman role into something genuinely unusual in his catalog.
