The record
Flutes and a cushioned rhythm section soften the usual brass punch here, with Rowles and Mitchell steering things toward mood music that still swings underneath. Kapp Records rarely sounded this relaxed, letting the trumpeter's big-band reputation take a back seat to something more intimate.
