The record
Recorded in 1970 as Martino's Prestige tenure was winding toward Muse, this session finds him pushing his single-line fluency into denser, more modal territory. A transitional set that hints at the harder fusion-edged sound he'd soon fully embrace.
Contemporary reception
No period review located yet. The vintage-press pipeline searches DownBeat, Cash Box, and Billboard for this session.
Pressings
Only four pressings are on file. The earliest is the 1970 US Prestige PR 7795 in stereo with an RVG stamp, and it is the only one of the four carrying a date -- the Japanese SMJ-7559, stock and promo, and the US PRT-7795 reissue are all undated here. That makes the 1970 Prestige the only copy we can place in period, and the RVG stamp is the thing to verify before paying up.
