The record
A Les McCann trio backing a young Rawls in full command of blues and jazz phrasing, cut for Capitol at the top of the '60s. Vinnegar's walking lines and Jefferson's brushwork keep things loose and after-hours, letting that baritone stretch out on the blues without ever overselling it.
Session personnel
- Leroy Vinnegar — bass
- Ron Jefferson — drums
- Les McCann — piano
- Lou Rawls — vocals

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1962 Capitol T 1714 in mono, a Scranton pressing; the stereo ST-1714 is listed the same year from both Scranton and Los Angeles, so plant and channel both matter when you are comparing copies. Capitol repressed the mono as T-1714 in 1965. Later options are the 1985 UK See For Miles SEE 51 and the 1989 Blue Note B1-91441, both stereo.
