The record
A trio pianist working the same lineage as Al Haig and Lennie Tristano's circle, Williams cut these EmArcy sides with a rotating cast of drummers and bassists who'd log time with Getz and Mulligan. Understated, swinging, and largely overlooked -- the kind of clean-lined 1950s bop-inflected date this compilation quietly rescues.
