The record
Recorded just as free jazz was taking shape stateside, this quintet of London-based players charted their own parallel path -- Harriott's alto cutting loose over Smythe's piano and Keane's flugelhorn with a logic all its own. Goode and Seamen anchor the abstraction, proof that the avant-garde wasn't only happening in New York.
Session personnel
- Joe Harriott — alto saxophone
- Coleridge Goode — bass
- Phil Seamen — drums
- Shake Keane — flugelhorn
- Pat Smythe — piano
