The Jazz Pickers found their voice in Babasin's pizzicato cello, paired here with Norvo's vibes and Wright's guitar for a light, conversational feel. Wootten's bass anchors a late-50s EmArcy session built on easy give and take.

"COMMAND PERFORMANCE" -- The Jazz Pickers featuring Red Norvo -- Mercury SR 60126 (Monaural & Stereo) Harry Babasin's Jazz Pickers, due to its instrumentation of guitar, bass, drums and cello, would normally make for fairly dull listening but with the addition here of Red Norvo, the first and still one of the most exciting and individual vibraphonists in jazz, this album takes on an entirely new meaning during Norvo's on stage time. His approach is basically percussion-like, using very little vibrato, which fits in well with the style of the group. Tunes are "Lester Leaps In," "Stinger" and "Someone to Watch Over Me."
