The record
A trombonist-composer's debut date that reads like a manifesto -- Hutcherson's vibes and Moncur's angular themes push past hard bop into something cooler and more abstract. With McLean and a teenage Tony Williams aboard, it's a hinge point between Blue Note's soul-jazz core and its mid-'60s avant-leaning wing.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file is the 1964 mono, BLP 4153. Every stereo copy listed is later: the 84153 numbers begin in 1966 with Liberty-era reissues and run to 1985, nearly all of them carrying RVG stamps, which is why the stamp is no guide to age on this title. The 2010 Music Matters 45 RPM, MMBST-84153, is the serious modern cut; a 180g Blue Note, 4535335, followed in 2022.
