The record
Small theater, early March 1964: Abdul-Malik's bass and Jackson's brushed drums leave the pianist plenty of open space to wander through his own catalogue of ideas. Long past his Armstrong-era start, he sounds patient and inquisitive, still turning up new corners in changes he's played for decades.
