The record
Cut live at the tail end of June '65, this quartet date finds the pianist in loose, exploratory form with longtime cohort Budd Johnson trading tenor and soprano lines over Ramey and Locke's easy swing. A rare glimpse of Hines unbound from big-band duty, stretching out in a small-group club setting where his stride roots and modernist reach both show.
Session personnel
