The record
A West Coast date built for section blend over solo heat, with Marty Paich's charts giving Fagerquist's warm trumpet lines room to breathe against DeRosa's french horn and Enevoldsen's valve trombone. Herb Geller and Mel Lewis round out a cast of first-call LA studio players, cut in that fertile late-'50s stretch when the coast's cool-toned arrangers were quietly rewriting big-band logic for small groups.
