The record
West Coast studio talent stacked deep -- Paul Horn's reeds and Larry Bunker's vibes color an octet arrangement built for shifting textures rather than blowing sessions. Marx leads from the piano with a composer's ear, and Vee Jay's early-60s jazz output remains a nice detour from the label's blues and doo-wop catalog.
