The record
The Pershing Lounge date built whole tunes from restraint, brushed drums and plucked bass leaving room around every phrase Jamal plays. That vamping take on 'Poinciana' reportedly held Miles Davis's attention and reshaped how a rhythm section could swing without filling the air.
